The Life and Accomplishments of Leonardo da Vinci Essay

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, near the town of Vinci in Italy, which resides next to Florence. He was the son of a Florentine notary, Piero da Vinci, and a young mistress named Caterina. He is famously recognised for his magnificient paintings, the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Leonardo da vinci was not only a famous painter, he was also an architect, musician, inventor, sculptor, scientist, engineer, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist as well as a writer. Leonardo Da Vinci revealed his artistic talents early in his life when his father had taken him to go train his skills as a painter and sculptor around the age of 15. He trained in the studio of Andrea Del Verroccho, a Renaissance master, where he remained†¦show more content†¦Even though there are still many assertions about where and when the period of the High Renaissance begins and ends, the best and quite well known of the Renaissance are painters who were in the High Renaissance, which included Leonardo. Using structural frame, I have analysed the Mona Lisa. The technique that has been used in this painting is called Sfumato, using this technique you are able to achieve a depth, softening colours and edges with dark glazes. Some of the Elements of Design on this painting are shown quite clearly, while others are not, though the main elements executed are Value (Tone) – The glazes and paint are all relatively dark or at least don’t have much contrast, stic king mostly to the browns though some blues and greens are used and Colour – In many areas of the Mona Lisa there is shading, from the light browns of the face and chest to just under the chin which has been darkened dramatically to increase the look of realism. As with the Elements of Design, the Principles of Design also have some that appear with more strength than others. The epitomes of Principles of the Mona Lisa would be Harmony – A lot of the colours are similar, and combine well with each other in the background and in the foreground. Balance – Balance was used a lot with her skin and her shadows, giving the shadows and hair a darker look because the light is close to it, giving a heavier effect.
